Grade II A: Exciting Experiments

Students of Grade II A were excited to visit the school laboratory. Our lab visit was to learn more about ‘Water’ which is our current Unit of Inquiry. Mr. Naveen, Lab Instructor, demonstrated experiments which helped kids understand different properties of Water. He explained what we mean by ‘Experiment’ and different steps in performing an experiment.

Students learnt the following through interesting activities:

  • He showed the difference between a physical reaction and a chemical reaction in simple terms — Physical change is a change from one state (solid or liquid or gas) to another. For example: Ice – Water – Vapor.
  • Chemical changes occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance.
  • Students enjoyed seeing ‘Water Cycle’ experiment: 3 stages — Evaporation/Condensation/Precipitation.
  • Students also understood that water is a very good solvent which can dissolve many substances.
  • Salt water can conduct electricity.
  • Capillary action of water.
  • Water Filtration.
It was a very good learning experience for the kids who are eagerly waiting to try some of the experiments at home.
