Celebrating the Language of Bliss

Telugu Utsavam was celebrated on 29th August, 2012. This was the day we celebrated the language, which has been praised to be as “sweet as honey”. Why on this day? This day has been chosen as official day for Telugu language as it is the birthday of Gidugu Venkata Rammurthy who strived hard to get recognition for Telugu language.

Children from nursery to grade X gave performances showcasing the language, its culture and its beauty. Tiny tots of the pre-primary sung rhymes and narrated stories, and to encourage them parents joined, who were very enthusiastic to see their little ones at their best. Primary school children performed a skit, narrated the great epic Ramayana. Senior school children sang beautiful Telugu songs, performed a skit “Desha Bhaashalandhu Telugu Lessa”. In addition, they revived memories by performing an age-old art form of story telling called “Burra Katha” where they sung and explained the importance of the language beautifully. Concluding the event, they left the audience with very famous “Podupu kathalu” (proverbs), which were very interesting. It was a great success as we at Oakridge, have children from different places belonging to different cultures, traditions and languages and together we had a wonderful experience.
