Fruit Salad Day!

In association with our ongoing topic on Healthy Food, Good manners and Etiquettes, children of PP 2 celebrated Fruit Salad Day on August 16, 2012. A healthy food is one that helps maintain or improve general health. Fruits like apple, banana, purple grapes, sweet lime, etc. were washed properly and kept on a tray. Seeing the fruits, children became inquisitive to learn how to make fruit salad.

Before cutting the fruit we conducted a brain storming session where children were asked several questions in order to increase their awareness about healthy food. Foe example, a fruit comes under healthy or junk food category, name, color and taste of each fruit, nutrition value of each fruit, etc. Fruits are generally high in fiber, water, vitamin C and sugar and are good for health. This concept was driven into the mindset of each child through brainstorming session.

Making of fruit salad was a fun filled activity. Children enjoyed this activity a lot and they were singing rhymes on healthy food "peel banana peel banana", "cut an apple", etc. Fruit salad was looking colorful as it was decorated with pomegranate seeds. Children were excited and ready to eat fruit salad with fork and spoon. Few children already knew how to use spoon and fork. It was a part of table manner and dining etiquette. Kids love to eat as much as they love making it and hence this activity was a great success to make children eat more and more fruits.
