London Olympics 2012



The 2012 Summer Olympic Games began in London, United Kingdom, on 27 July and will continue until 12 August 2012. The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will use a mixture of new venues, existing and historic facilities, and temporary facilities, some of them in well-known locations such as Hyde Park and Horse Guards Parade.

  • Danny Boyle’s secretive Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics has finally been revealed. Taking audiences on a beautifully chaotic journey through many iconic moments in modern British history, Boyle’s opening ceremony made for an awe-inspiring beginning to the world’s most legendary event. 
  • Sushil Kumar of the India Olympic wrestling team carried his country's flag during the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on July 27, 2012 in London, England. 
  • This year’s Summer Games have been dubbed ‘Olympics 2012: Year of the Woman’ as for the first time in history women are represented in all participating national teams and comprise a record 45 per cent of all athletes. 
  • Archery, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling, equestrian, fencing, men's gymnastics, handball, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, and weightlifting all began on Saturday. 
  • India's Vijender Singh beat Danabek Suzhanov of Kazakhstan 14-10 in the first round of men's middle-weight 75kg category Boxing event, to advance to the round of 16 at the London Olympics 2012. 
  • Soumyajit Ghosh kept India's table tennis challenge alive as he moved into the second round of the main draw
  • With a record 81 athletes, India will look to write a new chapter in their Olympics history.
