Read and Rhyme

It is a well-known fact that when there were no televisions or computers, reading was a primary leisure activity. People would spend hours reading books and travel to lands far away-in their minds. The only tragedy is that, with time, people are losing their skill and passion to read. There are many other exciting and thrilling options available, like watching TV, going to the mall, tinkering with their mobile phones or playing video games. And that is of course necessary to some extent. But we should not forget reading offers a productive approach to improve our vocabulary and word power.

Keeping this in mind, The students of Grade IIIA had their first stage show ‘Read and Rhyme’ on 20th August 2011.Their reading material included articles related to stories, poems, newspapers and also interesting facts. The students read with confidence as the parents were also involved in assessing every child using the rubric that was given to them. The parents were then engaged in the group activity which was charismatic.

This show not only inculcated the reading habit but also made us understand the importance of reading. It is advisable to indulge in at least half an hour of reading a day to keep abreast of the various styles of writing and new vocabulary. It helps us to stay in-touch with contemporary writers and makes us sensitive to global issues.
