Expression Rainbow

Workshop on film making by DQ Entertainment (International),
Organized by Oakridge International School, Einstein Campus,

On 10 December 2010, Oakridge International School Einstein Campus hosted an Interschool Competition called Expression Rainbow.  The activity that was held during 2-day event was on short-filmmaking.  On Friday we were taught how to start our film-making procedure and the basic concepts about film-making.  On Friday, we had the training part of the program.  It started with the inauguration of the event.  The inauguration started with the lighting of the lamp followed by the speech of our guest Mr. Victor of Maa T.V.
A  general idea about the competition was explained by our honorable Principal Ma'am.  We were escorted to the science lab where all the fun began.   We were fortunate to have instructors from DQ entertainment to help us through the process.  After the day was over, we were told to get ready for Day 2. . .
We had to make 30 slides. Pictures were taken by all the teams for the competition going all around the school. We had to think and locate the places related to our story line.  Everyone was busy the whole day to the extent that some were refusing to take a break and eat lunch! It was nice to see children from schools like DAV, Manipal Hill Side Academy, Indus World School, Sreenidhi, Chirec & Bhavans running around the school, searching for beautiful locations.  Then using software's, ex. Movie Maker, the teams created their short-films.  Then all the short films were presented to the judges and everyone was escorted to the closing ceremony.  Here a few words were given by the judges.  Then the winners were announced.  DPS won first prize while D.A.V were the runner-ups.  It was a wonderful experience.

Comments of the participants………!

“Workshop is exceptionally good expecting more”   Manipal Hillside Academy.
“Do hold the workshop again and call us” Chirec
“It was amazing to know that we could make a film with just a camera.
It was fun because it was our own story “Harmony of life”. We went around the school to shoot pictures in different locations. The best part was making the film in ‘Windows Movie maker” by giving visual and Sound effect. When our movie was presented we felt like directors and watching our own movie. It was an amazing and a memorable experience.”
(Veena ,Ananya, Sannehitha, Sanjana)  Oakridge Einstein campus
“Well organized, good content, outstanding assistance and good care”  D.A.V. Kukatpally.
“Superb, marvelous, arrangements, hope it continues in future”. Nikil ,D.A.V .Public school.
“Well organized, good hospitality. We suggest you to conduct more workshops like this and
give us opportunity to learn more.” D.P.S. kajaguda.
“Excellent hospitality”  Nikitha  Indus World School.
“The theme of our short film was “Sharing the Planet” We had the story in our mind so we started taking pictures of different locations, we went to the computer lab to organize the slides and insert the audio. This was a great learning experience because we got to learn a new way of making a movie. It allowed us to express our thoughts. Though we did not win the competition we got to learn something new. It was fun meeting friends from different schools.”

Live Your Dreams

On December 14, Sanketh from Newton campus and I Vishal from grade 9, along with Malini mam, our science teacher, visited the Rainbow Hospital and as soon as we arrived there we were escorted to the Board Room and the Board Room was basically a group of doctors discussing the conditions of the patients and they also decide whether the patient should be discharged or stay longer for treatment or surgery. After the meeting we went on rounds this was when we went to the different wards of the hospital and observed the patients, the main doctor, Dr. Ramesh Kancharla explained the symptoms, cures, and safety procedures taken for the patient. Next we followed the doctor back to his clinic and he examined walk-in patients like a normal day, finally we ended the day with a tour of the hospital we saw the ICU, NICU, MICU, and the cancer department this was a great experience for me because hospitals usually don’t allow students to visit the important sectors of the hospital so I learned a lot from this trip.

I feel extremely fortunate to have accompanied Mounika and Geetha from Grade VIII to meet one of the most prominent Designers of the city, Ms.Vinita Pittie. This visit was a priceless peek into her life; deeply rooted in traditions and customs. Her house and workshop were very inviting and to top it all, she was ardently hospitable and treated us like her personal guests. She showed us around her palatial heritage house/workshop and introduced the minutiae and history of some noticeable parts her abode. Seeing her creativity while she worked with intricate designs was very impressive. It was a pleasure to have such an artistic and welcoming host for our day out.

Taisi Sports meet Pune

The Taisi sports meet in pune was one of the most enjoyable things in the year, and I was lucky to be a part of it. The host school, Vishwashanti Gurukul was a wonderful and hospitable host. All the students in the host school were friendly and kind. They all tried to make us feel comfortable. As we were eating our breakfast on the first day we saw the other schools come in and even though initially we were shy soon we introduced ourselves and were talking. Then we all went for practice as the day the sports had not begun and we took time to be familiar with the ground we were playing.
Next day at the opening ceremony they were some speeches and all the schools did march past and the principal of the school declared the sports meet open. All the people dispersed to different sports and all the competitions begun. Every where people were giving their best in the sport and as always, there were people who won and people who lost.
There was fierce competition in every sport and for all the days it proceeded on. At evenings for relaxing and soothing our senses, everyone used to go to the cultural show and have fun. Everyday people got eliminated while others won moved forward. There were a few fights but everything went smooth. At the closing ceremony all the prizes were handed out and speeches were given to cheer people up and to tell them the importance of team work. At the end people said good bye to each other and many people played friendly matches and had everyone joining in. On the whole it was all a very nice experience and an enjoyable one. I hope it continues to be so in the future.

Einstein campus Health Walk..

On November 14, 2010 on account of Children's Day, we the Oakridge students walked a 5Kms health walk to support diabetes research.  It was fun walking with everyone knowing that what we were doing was for a good cause.  Let me not forget the wonderful faculty who also actively contributed to this health walk.  We were holding banners while we walked and there was always a student on one side of the banner and a teacher on the other.  At first I thought 5K was going to be a very tiring experience, but when i walked with my friends and had fun, seemed really short and I wanted to walk more.  The walk started from KBR Park. Then we walked till the Jubilee Hills Check post and came back around to the KBR park. This walk was special to me because my grandfather is diabetic.  I am happy that i was a part of this wonderful program because it was personally a good cause for me and generally a good cause throughout the world.

The day I met the Prince

We, the students of Grades VI-IX were fortunate to be an audience for the play “The Day I Met the Prince” staged in Hyderabad Children’s Festival held at Shilpkala Vedika on November 23. It was a very bright and colourful performance. The play was loaded with energy and lot of pep. The script was supported with many lively songs and dances. Small magic tricks were also incorporated in the script which made it even more enjoyable for all of us. Since the play was interactive, we all had a lot of fun. The part I appreciated best about the play was that the actors could connect effectively with children. The play addressed important issues like identity, creativity, understanding and empathy to different cultures. The entire concept of the play was unique and impressed me and my friends.

Watching the play was indeed a great experience.

As a part of the ongoing “ Live Your Dreams” project, I and  Hiranya of Grade VIII met the celebrity singer, S P Balasubramanyam at Sarathy Studios on  November 23.  SPB, as he is popularly known, answered questions ranging from his humble beginnings to reaching the epitome of his career. He spoke about the importance of education in an individual’s life. He exhorted the youngsters to set their goals and have a single minded focus to follow it with zeal and passion. It was a wonderful experience to meet a legend and then watch him hosting a children’s music reality show ‘Padutha Teeyaga’. It was indeed a dream come true.
